Wh at makes Fratello Coffee so special?

The essential facts about Fratello Coffee

  • All of Fratello’s coffee used is "strictly-high grown" or "strictly hard-bean" arabicas. That means the "cream of the crop".

  • All of Fratello’s coffee is roasted in small batches (averaging 55 pounds) and is roasted fresh when you order.

  • All of Fratello’s single origin coffees (Kenyan, Sumatran, Costa Rican etc.) and regular blends (Marachesh, Moca Java, Blue Pacific etc.) are roasted to a full-city or medium roast.

  • All of Fratello’s dark geographicals (Kenya-Dark, Brazil-Dark etc. and the Dark Blends (House French Dark, Moca Arabica etc.) are roasted to a Viennese, French or dark French roast.

  • All of Fratello’s single origin decafs and our decaf blends use the Swiss Water Process.

  • All of Fratello’s flavored decafs use the natural process or CO2 method.

The Roasting Process

Fratello use a slow roast method for their beans, which brings out the best flavour characteristics. Commercial, fast roasters may produce more coffee, but with compromised taste.

  • Cooling - In order to lock in flavor and aroma, Fratello cools the roasted beans using air to ensure the coffee remains fresh longer. While water quenching may be useful to reduce bean weight loss and therefore save a roaster money, it can accelerate staling.

  • Blends - Fratello blends their coffee beans only after they are roasted to bring out greatest flavor potential. This takes more time and effort then roasting the blended beans together, but provides superior results.
